Don't most common stereotypes derive from truth?
Common stereotypes:
Most Asians are smart and score very highly on standardized test.
Most African Americans are excellent athletics. (Ever watch; Basketball, Football, Boxing, Wrestling, Cross Country/Track,...Hell, even Golf and tennis)
Most White people are puntuial to meetings...
(My white boss will fire my ass if I don't show up on time.)
Damn, the list gones on and on... But honestly folks, when I was in college I had Asian friends to help me with math homework (Hence, straight A's) ... when I needed to work on my jump shot on the Basketball court, I contacted the brothers... and when I needed legal help or file my tax returns; there where always white people.
This might be over exaggerated, but I believe that sterotypes DO derive from some form of truth. Ask your self this: How many Asians have you seen on ABC playing professional basketball? Some think it's a cultural thing; but what do you think?

The problem with stereotypes is that yes, of course there is some truth there, but it is unjustly assigned to a group of people. There are non Asians who habitually get good grades, or non Blacks who have athletic talents. Stereotypes are derived from observations of a small sample of a given group of people, in no way do these observations account for or represent all of the members of the group. All of the things you mentioned could apply to anyone. Why give anyone a reason to make excuses by even posting this?
