Parka Jacket

GORETEX Please tell me about your experience before and after a goretex jacket/parka.?
Hi this question is for mountaineers, snowboarders, skiers.
I have the chance to buy a jacket impermeable for mountaineering, it is waterproof, but it is not breatable and without goretex-like tissue. And the other jacket is waterproof and goretex.
¿Do you feel a big diference between a non-goretexed parka and a goretexed-parka ?
Tell me about your experience and the sport you practice.
Gore-Tex (or any waterproof/breathable material) is almost essential for active outdoor winter sports where you have the chance to get wet from precipitation and you will be generating a lot of body heat. What happens when you wear a non-breathable shell is the moisture from your perspiration gets trapped inside and gradually you get wet. This does not suggest that w/b materials will wick away 100% of your perspiration and that it won't condense on the inside of the shell, but it reduces the condensation build up greatly. A non-waterproof jacket (ie fleece or wool) will allow for more evaporation and will give you insulation as well, but one you get caught in a wet snow or winter drizzle you will get soaked and eventually start to get cold...not to mention your coat now weighs five extra pounds.
I ski and snowshoe all winter, almost daily, and the only "heavy" parka I wear regularly is my uniform jacket from Ski Patrol that I am supposed to wear. For all other skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, and winter mountaineering I wear several layers of wool/synthetic clothing and top it off with just lightwieght w/b shells. It can be 10F and unless it's snowing I'll hike all day in a wool sweather and a fleece vest. When I ski for recreation I normally wear lightweight Gore-Tex rain shell pants over Polartec200 pants and sometimes Smartwool long underwear. I wear a waterproof softshell jacket over various layers (it depends on the weather.) Someplace in a closet is my heavy weight mountaineering jacket. Even when I lived in Vermont I think that thing only saw the light of day few times a year. Usually when it was -10 out and it was wicked windy. Even then, the fact that it was waterproof was moot because the snow rolled off it, but I was glad it was breathable otherwise I would have been soaked from inside.
